Good morning artists. This week we are going on a field trip.  We will be going to The Tate Museum online and learning how to use sound as the inspiration for your art.  After viewing the link, complete the steps below.

Please email me a copy of your work: christine.mccue@bufsd.org

Art inspired by sound can be described as a piece of artwork that was created while the artist was listening to sounds and conveying the meaning in their artwork.  Have you ever heard a song and felt happy? Or maybe there was a song that made you feel sad.  How do you feel when you are watching a movie and the music becomes tense? Music and sounds can be used to guide the way we create art. Tate Kids has a few different sounds to listen to for you to try it for yourself. Click on the link below and find the sound you would like to illustrate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SHmN-wXykU

After you read the story, think of an area of your yard that could use some flowers. Design a garden or pick one flower that you would like to grow in your garden.  Draw the flowers with as much details as you can.

4/22~ Wednesday Art Challenge

Good morning artists. Happy Earth Day! Today you are going to dig through your recyclables and find a plastic bottle to create a reused/repurposed piece of artwork Please see the attached document to see a demonstration of the assignment. Recycled Bottle Flower.pdf

4/21~ Tuesday Art Challenge

Good morning artists. Today we are going to be making our own watercolors.

Coffee Filter/Paper Towel Diffusion Design: Draw designs on a white coffee filter or paper towel with markers. Spray, brush or drip water on the coffee filter/paper towel. Watch the colors spread and mix. Try to see if you can make secondary colors, purple, green and orange by overlapping primary colors.

4/20~ Monday Art Challenge

Good morning artists. I hope you had a good weekend. Today we are going to look closely at our hand and find all of the fine details you have never noticed before.

Hand Drawing: Place the hand you don’t write with on a piece of paper. Trace

your hand carefully. Place your hand next to your tracing. Examine your hand for details. Draw lines within your tracing to establish your fingernails and lines near the knuckles of your fingers. Be sure to look extra close and find those fine lines that weave all over your skin.

4/17~ Friday Funday
Good morning artists. It is a beautiful day outside and we are going on a field trip to France. We will be visiting Street Artist Camille Walala and see how she develops her ideas. Please visit this link:
https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/explore/kids-view/meet-street-artist
Notice all the shapes and bold colors she uses in her design. After viewing her studio, take a piece of paper and draw 10 shapes. They can be all the same or different and see what happens when you overlap. After your shapes are drawn, color them in with bright, bold colors. As an extra challenge you can take your design outdoors. If you have sidewalk chalk you can transfer your design onto a larger scale by drawing it onto your driveway.

4/16~ Thursday Art Challenge

Good morning artists. Today we are going to make some Pop art. You may use the artist Romero Britto for inspiration:
https://britto.com/artworks/originals/
Line Design Pattern Drawing: Fold a piece of paper in half vertically twice.
Open and fold paper in half horizontally twice. This should create 16 blocks. Draw a different line design in each box (straight, curved, dashed, wavy, zig zag, dotted, scalloped, etc.). Repeat the same line design within the block to create patterns. Experiment with making the lines in different directions, changing the thickness of the lines or coloring the spaces between the lines.

4/15~ Wednesday Art Challenge
Good morning artists. Today we are going to play game with a family member.

Mystery Drawing: Ask someone in your family to draw a loose scribble on a piece of paper. Turn the paper, looking at the scribbled design from each side.See if you can see anything in the scribbled design. Add details to create something from the scribbled line.

4/14~ Tuesday Art Challenge
Good morning artists. What a beautiful day outside. Today I want to make sure you spend some time getting some fresh air. After that you can work on a project your whole family can enjoy tonight.
Board Game: Think about your favorite game. It can be a board game or a video game. You are going to use this game as your inspiration. If you have a board game at home, take a look at the design and the pieces. Think of your own, new game you are going to deign. Draw you own board design on a piece of paper. Draw the game pieces on a seperate piece of paper. What will you name your game? If you have an empty box at home, you can store your game board and pieces inside. For an extra challenge you can decorate the box.

4/13~ Monday Art Challenge
Good morning artists. Today is a rainy day, perfect for staying in your cozy house. We are going to be architects today, so get your pencils and paper ready.
Room Floorplan: Go into your favorite room in the house. Draw an outline of the shape of the room. Imagine you are looking down from the ceiling (bird's eye view). Draw shapes for the furniture in the room. Place the shapes where they are within the outline of the floor. Mark where the windows and doors are in the room. Feel free to add color to your drawing.

4/10~ Friday Funday

Good morning artists. We are off on another fieldtrip. Today we are going to visit photography with a focus on perspective. Artists we will be viewing are from all over the world, Germany, the U.S., Thailand, Bolivia and more. Take a look at the shapes, lines and forms that are created from the perspective of the camera. Notice how the areas closer to the outside edge are larger in appearance than the areas moving in toward the center. For your challenge today, you are going to draw a small square somewhere on your paper and draw lines from the outer edge of the paper to the center of the square. In between these lines you can create additional lines or patterns. Keep in mind your point of perspective and make sure your patterns are larger toward the outer edge of the paper compared to close to your small square.

4/8~ Wednesday Art Challenge

Good morning artists. Today we are going to continue working with lines, but create a portrait of a family member.

Portrait: Draw a picture of someone in your family. Begin with an egg shape to establish the shape of the head. Next draw the features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears). Add the neck and shoulders. Draw the clothing. Add the hairstyle. You can complete the portrait by adding shading with your pencil or coloring with crayons or colored pencils.

4/7~ Tuesday Art Challenge

Good morning artists. Today we are going to make a colorful abstract drawing.

One Line Design: Place your pencil on one of the corners of your paper. Draw a continuous, looping line around your paper, crossing over as many times as you want. The line ends where you started.
